DIY Soy Candles

A Gift Your Love Ones Will Actually Enjoy!

Christmas is right around the corner and I have been super busy with all my DIY’s. Have you checked out my DIY Garland or DIY Advent Calendar?

The best DIY’s are ones I make for my family.  For the last couple of years I have made it a point to make most of my gifts. The thing with making your own gifts is wanting them to look nice and be items people with actually use. Although I am sure your mom loves that “I love Mom” frame you bought her in the 3rd grade, as an adult, people love gifts they can actually use. This is the perfect gift that cost very little but people will actually use and enjoy it! And it’s easy for all you beginner DIYers.

First you need to visit your local Goodwill which is where I found these old copper Moscow mule mugs. These are so popular right now so I couldn’t believe I found the pair for $4!!

You can purchase the wax and wicks at your local craft stores or online shops like Amazon. Here is where I bought my WAX and here is where I got my wicks. The wicks will last a while but one pound of wax only made 2 candle mugs for me.

Here is what you’ll need:

  • Mug or bowl from your local Goodwill Store
  • Wax
  • Wicks
  • Sticks to hold wick in place (You purchase these at Walmart or your grocery store)
  • Essential Oil (Optional- For scent)

Step One:

Pour dry wax into cup or bowl. You need two times the amount of where you want the candle to sit in the cup. So pour the wax to where you want it to and double that amount.

Step Two:

I melted my wax by sitting a glass bowl in boiling water.

Step Three:

Please Wick in center of candle and use two sticks to center the wick where you want it. (This is important so your candle melts evenly)

Step Four:

Add 50 drops of essential oils to melted wax. You can add as little or as much as you want depending on how scented you want you candle. You can purchase oils from most craft stores as well.

Step Five:

Pour melted wax into cup or bowl.

Step Six:

Let the wax settle for 24 hours before burning candle.

After you created your beautiful candle, wrap it up for your loved ones to enjoy!
