DIY Veggie Garden

This DIY Veggie Garden project has been a long time coming. I promised my sweet boys that we would build their “garden” back in February. We were buying all of our supplies when my water broke at Home Depot. I guess little sister is already calling the shots ;).

**This DIY is easy, but does require basic power tool skills. Please make sure you know how to work all power tools before you attempt this project.

Tools Needed:

Drill/Wood Screws -or- Nail Gun

Saw (if wood isn’t cut prior)

Wire Cutters

Gardening Tools

Aren’t my little helpers cute šŸ˜‰

Supplies Needed:

7 Pieces of Cedar Fencing (Cut Dog Ears off of each piece, Cut four- 2′ Pieces, two-1′ pieces, leave the rest at 5′ )

5 Foot 1X2″ (Cut 4 11″ Pieces and 2- 5.5″ Pieces)

Wire- I used wire under our raised beds to keep out our pests. We have has a major gopher problem the last couple summers. So you can skip this step if you don’t have this kind of problem.

Veggie Seeds or Pony Pack

5 Bags of Soil (Raised Bed Soil)

DIY PROCESS

*When I use the words “attach” in this post, I amĀ referring to using wood screws or nail gun toĀ attach wood.Ā

Step One:

Purchase material and have Home Depot staff cut wood or cut your wood at sizes listed above.

Step Two (Optional):

Lay down your under wire if you have a pest problem like us. I laid out one for the back box and didn’t need to cut it since in was exactly 2′ x 5′. The second sheet of wire, I cut down the center long ways at 1′ x 5′.

Step Three:

Attach two 5 foot cedar boards to both 1×2″‘s cut at 11″.

Step Four:

Stand up and place where its final destination will be, and attach two 2′ cedar boards to each side, and repeat step three on opposite side creating a box.

Step Five:

Attach one 1×2″ to the front corners and add one cedar board cut at 1′ to each side connecting them with the last 5′ cedar board.

Step Six:

Pour raised bed soil into planter. Fill about 3/4 of the way. (I used stakes to label each of our vegetables)

Step Seven:

Plant pony packs or seeds and wait for your garden to grow.

Happy Gardening!
