Summer Home Tour- Our House on Magnolia

Happy happy Second Day of Summer. Welcome to our 1929 Southern California parsonage.

Here in California, we have hit the 100’s already and we are feeling it. The heat does things to people… my kids are irritable, I have been grumpy, and all I want to do is lounge. Anyone feeling me?  I have the AC’s bumping and the kids and I will be spending most of the next couple of weeks at the beach, or water parks in our area. Hopefully it will turn my little grumps back into their sweet little selves.

Anyway, come on in, enjoy the AC, some of my Nana’s sweet tea, and all things summer.

I have been so excited to share our home with you all, especially because I love Summer (not the heat, but the beach, and trips and all that comes with the summer time). With fourth of July around the corner, I find myself getting all patriotic. My husband is currently serving in the Army Reserves, and has been deployed and away from our family for trainings months at a time. Because of that, I have a great respect for our country, its freedom, and the men and women who sacrifice so much to keep it that way. During the summer, my home is a reflection of that gratitude. It’s an amazing reminder to be thankful for all we have, and all we take advantage of. Maybe I should keep it up all year.

Our living room is my favorite spot this season. I love the large flag hanging on our faux fireplace. And best part… I got this flag for $1. Yup a dollar. I had been looking for something large to hang there for summer and I was at the 99 Cent store the other day and they had this flag and a bandana ( that is just a smaller version of this flag) for a dollar each. When I brought it home and opened it, I expected it to be small. This thing is massive and I LOVE IT!

My husband loves to read, as you can tell, and his favorite subject is American History. He love colonial history the most and I take his obsession and make it mine in using his books for decor year.

He pretends he doesn’t understand, but when I brought out one, he brought out this amazing book of the constitution. He totally gets it.

Our floating shelves are redecorated every couple of days.. so I am sure they won’t stay like this for long, but they are still one of my favorite DIY‘s to date and lots of people have purchased them from my shop as well. I love that they can go in almost any home and any style.

Since the summer heat has hit hard, one of my favorite and most refreshing drinks is my Nana’s sweet tea. <—- Click for recipe.

This table was my most recent DIY. I will be sharing the tutorial in the next couple of weeks. Literally ANYONE can build this. It is a perfect addition to our dining room, and I love serving our meals and desserts on it. Our very favorite dessert for summer is Berry shortcake. I love how fresh all the berries are during summer and what better way to enjoy them than on angel food cake and whipped cream. Yum.

Ps.. this is the bandana I told you about. $1.

The baskets underneath were from a local food bank. My husband picks up food for our church pantry and saw these babies and the guy told him he could have them. I think my hubs knows me a little too well.

My husband is a pastor at our church, and we have the privilege of living in the parsonage. So after our long days, my husband walks across the street and we enjoy our nights in the yard  watching our boys play. We don’t have much shade in the yard, so we take advantage of the cool summer nights, watching the sun set over the church.  Its my favorite time in the day.

This Palette planter is amazing since I have a major gopher problem. I shared some other unique ways to create planters a few weeks back.
